I am a farmer who raise ducks and cows. The animals have a total of 9 heads and 26 feet. How many ducks and cows do I have?

5 + 4 = 9
(5 x 2) + (4 x 4) = 10 + 16 = 26

These last couples of weeks have been a blur. I have lived in a sleep and rest deprived haze f while working more than 40 hours some weeks.
 I had been covering Mark's shifts at the bakery and working my second job and picking up extra shifts and providing an unshakeable foundation for next year's paper.
But I get to visit friends in Southern California from the 3 through the 9 of August.  I will be foregoing theme park visits and sight seeing to hang out, read, and sleep.

Yes:

• I finished House Of Leaves and it was the greatest. It's so long, it seemed like it would never end, and it still feels that way. Like I can't believe it's over. I don't know if I can start another book just yet. I don't feel like House Of Leaves is done with me.
  
• I am going to get a bike this week.

• FUCKING GNATS!! I've been swatting them all morning. They are eeeveerrrrryyyywheeeerreee. It's gross. The little fuckers just cling the the edges of things--the edge of the microwave, the edge of the cupboard, the edge of the range hood, the edge of a chair back, the edge of the chandelier, etc--in clusters. Then I smack the clusters with a rolled-up newspaper and they scatter, fluttering around aimlessly like idiots in stupid little clouds, then eventually they land somewhere else and just sit there until I whack at them again. ughhhh. Where are they COMING from??
• Making silicone molds is EXPENSIVE. I made 3 yesterday and I don't even want to think about how much it cost. Making molds is also messy and annoying, and it's fairly likely that it won't set right and you'll end up with a mold full of air bubbles. I pretty much expect at least one of mine to have lots of bubbles. Bah I say. I'm done with molds.

Painting makes my fucking back hurt. My poor trapezius.
Unghhh I am so tired of Sketching for Illustration homework. It is so time consuming. This week the homework was just two 6" x 12 1/2" painting comps of our crime scene ideas and I spent over 3-4 hours on each one -- not including set-up time, which was at least an hour for each. I probably would have spent more time if we weren't required to use natural light. You can only paint for so many hours before the change in light is dramatic that it changes the scene. Actually, I'll need to finish one of them tomorrow because it got dark when I was working on it yesterday.
I appreciate the ass-kicking I'm getting in this class, but I'm sure not enjoying it at the moment. I still hate acrylic. Our teacher hates acrylic, too. I think acrylic is generally hated. We're being forced to work with it right now because it is the most frustrating and most difficult kind of paint, and once we master it, going back to oil is going to be a breeeeeeze.

My house is full of little gnat-type bugs. At least they die easily.

I recently played a show with a gentleman named Joseph Murphy who goes by Twin Cats. We exchanged some music and his cd is going to be in immediate and heavy rotation. Here's two songs that go back to back on the record, trust me on this one... this music is rich. It's red house painters meets Mojave 3... it's folk shoegaze, it's chamber pop... it's whatever you want to call it really... beautiful sad pop... lets make up a genre that is more fitting.

Whenever I can get to a computer, I basically need to do homework, but so many things have been happening, I supposed I could excuse myself taking a little time to post about it, since I've been reading and posting online so seldom lately.

First of all, my laptop has been stolen. Then the radiator in my car blew up. The circumstances of both of these instances are long or short stories, depending on how you look at them. Details are...unnecessary.

But this is a good month, really! Once I get my car back I'm going to be in business, mostly. I'm putting together a magazine, hopefully I'll finish it in a week and a half. Laura's amazing work will be the star of the show, naturally, but I'm getting a lot of stuff together. I'm still looking for more material. The magazine is bitcho issue 2  and the theme is "porn, puzzles, and activities", although I'm aiming at only maybe half of the content being on theme, and the rest being open submissions.

Also, I don't really have anything to do this month except cultural anthropology, comm 1, and cooking, reading, and writing. And seeing Laura and friends whenever I can, working on my car, planning my move back up to Humboldt County, and generally staying out of trouble. So far, I'm still alive and well, at least.

And, just out of curiosity, any idea how you, reader, would exact revenge upon someone who stole something very valuable and personal from you or someone you cared about? Maybe something from a book or movie?

• My digital illustration teacher thought we were all too sluggish during critique tonight so he took us all to the cafeteria and bought us ice cream!! I got a frozen lemonade. It was the greatest thing a teacher has done in a while.

• This time I got my sketching for illustration homework done in a timely manner and what does that mean? It means I will be sleeping tonight! All goddamn night yessir. I am so happy about this I can't tell you.

• I finished designing my paper toy and I have it here for any of you who feel like it to print out and assemble yourself! You like sea monsters right? Print it out! It's mildly entertaining!
